Houdini's Torture Cell
Difficulty Level: 8/10
Designed by: Brian Young
Produced by: Puzzle Master
Experience the thrill of freeing the legendary escape artist with Houdini's Torture Cell, a captivating puzzle designed by Brian Young and produced by Puzzle Master. To release Houdini from his cell, you’ll need to uncover hidden tools and determine their uses. One of Brian's trademarks is providing immediate engagement by incorporating elements you can discover almost right away, ensuring your interest remains piqued.
Although the puzzle contains numerous magnets, no forceful actions such as hitting or banging are required. Each step of the solution requires finding and utilizing specific tools. The concept for Houdini’s Torture Cell originated from a lock in the intricate Opening Bat puzzle from the Sold Out Limited Edition 2010 series. Brian revisited this unique and satisfying idea to create a standalone puzzle where most elements are visible, allowing you to strategize without even touching the puzzle.
This puzzle has received notable accolades, including the Jury First Prize in the Nob Yoshigahara Puzzle Design Competition at IPP 2012 in Washington, USA. It is also highlighted in Peter Hajek's book “Enter If You Can,” which explores the history of secret opening puzzle boxes and locks.
