“The King Box, a familiar challenge I reviewed in 2018, made a comeback, and its allure was hard to resist. While its sibling, the Wing Hanger, posed a simpler challenge, the King Box is in a league of its own. Crafted from Wenge, Padauk, and Elm, its appearance is absolutely mesmerizing. The checkerboard pattern, intended as a reassembly aid, initially added to the complexity, as the two burr sticks weaved through each other in a seemingly intricate dance. The box's design with its multiple windows added another layer to the challenge. Upon disassembly, I scrambled the pieces, and after a few days, had to figure out the assembly from scratch. While the checkerboard pattern was somewhat helpful, it momentarily misled me, but the realization that followed was a delightful Aha! moment.”
